Meditation: Are You Any Better Off Than Before?
Reflection: For Your Consideration, All Is Vanity
Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better? Ecclesiastes 6:11
Today’s meditation is live from the hills of California, taking a break from the ocean. It asks you to consider your own wealth, materialism, vanity. Think about what it is you have accomplished.
Concentration: Tough Question About Betterment
Now, think about whether you are any better for it? That’s the question the word of God asks. Here’s a scenario, you have a million dollars in the bank. How are you better? It’s not whether you’re better or not, how are you better? If you can, look at how you’re any better than you were before you had the million dollars, and just take stock of that. Maybe, this is an exercise in thankfulness and gratitude, but definitely it’s not an exercise in pride.
Focus: The Pitfall Of Prideful Accomplishments
If you’re going around saying, ‘Look at me, look at what I did and what I have, and what I accomplished,’ that might not make you any better. If you became prideful because of your accomplishments, that definitely wouldn’t make you any better because pride comes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Beware of pride. All is vanity.
